HEARTWARMING STORY

A very heartwarming story from last weeks volunteering trip....during a visit to a neighbouring school one of our volunteers, Sophie, spotted a boy on the hillside tending his families goats. He was looking down at the school intrigued at what was happening. Sophie approached the boy to speak to him and noticed he only had one shoe on..walking on rocky and hot land in 40 degree heat. He was around 7 years old and obviously not in school either. Hours later Sophie was in the market buying him a complete pair of new shoes and a back pack. Later in the afternoon the group visited the village near the school and Sophie was able to track down the boy to hand over his new shoes and a new backpack. A spokesperson for the group shared that Sophie would really like his family to support him in attending school. The group then said their goodbyes to the villagers. The very next day they received the most wonderful news...the boy was at the local feeder school wearing his new shoes and carrying his new backpack! Just a small gesture from Sophie has now made a huge difference to the life of this little boy.

* UPDATE* Matthew met Samanga (the little boy) last weekend as he attended the free medical camp and the great news is that Samanga is now enrolled to start Memusi School in January!
