DAYS FOR GIRLS SEWING EVENT
3rd July 2018
DAYS FOR GIRLS
Thanks to an introduction to the charity ‘Days For Girls’ from one of our volunteers, Memusi have now made links and have been provided with all the patterns and instructions on how to make our kits.
After weeks of hard work by Sally at HQ and a few volunteers, on the 3rd July, we hosted our first sewing event in the village of Holmbridge (where Memusi HQ is) in conjunction with St Davids Church. Through social media and the local community contacts we advertised for volunteers - both sewers and non-sewers - to come and help make the kits. To say it was the England World Cup match we were blown away by the number of people in attendance.
People were cutting, pinning sewing, overlocking & ironing …all in support of adolescent girls in Kenya. We achieved so much in one night. We have now set our second date as we continue to complete enough for 50 kits.
If you would like to set up your own group please let us know. There are a lot of instructions to follow but now we have done it once it shouldn’t be too difficult to explain it to you. We will try and make a video during the next event to help with instructions.
Next Days For Girls Sewing Event: Tuesday 4th September at St Davids Church, Holmbridge. 7pm.
